Future of Copper Hill in Newmarket
From the map, The neighborhood of Copper Hill in Newmarket looks like a spider web!
A new Community Splash Pad comes to Copper Hill! When Councillor Tom Vegh twittered the news all people in the neighborhood should have a big smile! I was sent with one picture of that twitter immediately from some neighbor who just uses Wechat, then I started following him on Twitter.
Yesterday Oct 3rd, a community meeting was held again by Tom Vegh (Newmarket Ward 1 councilor ), and there are more updates on the further development of Copper Hills:
- Construction will soon begin on Coppervalley Estates (about 109 homes). It will be built in a single phase and Sobara Group hopes to be finished within 18 months.
- Preston Group is rethinking their luxury townhouse option at Veterans Way/Leslie Street and may return to a scaled down plaza option.
- Construction to build the Ward 1 splash pad will start this month and continue as long as the weather permits.
- The York Region District School Board has purchased the school property abutting Frank Stronach Park. No announcement regarding the building of a school has been made, but it is not likely to be soon.
- Best estimate regarding the completion of Copper Hills is two years, but the project is market driven therefore timelines are not absolute.
I went to York Region School Board website about future school and they put Newmarket SE ES as a Post 2021 Project and the Proposed Capacity is to To Be Determined.
A good neighborhood is highly dependent on the people living there, just like today’s Splash Pad resulted from the petition endorsed by 300 residents 3 years ago!
